After the opium war china was pretty much left to die. The british pretty much took all of chinas money. Selling opium to chinas people killed almost all. China ask nicely for britian to stop selling opium to there people and they rudely declined. When china tried to stop britians trade boats britian sent in there war ships. China not being as advanced as britian, britian walked all over there ships. Most of britians boats were a different type of wood that bade chinas cannon balls bounce back.
